Bob Freeman
Professional Farrier

Providing horseshoeing and hoofcare
in Marin and Sonoma Counties, California
Good trimming of the
sole, frog and white
line interferes with
the growth of an-
aerobic bacteria
which cause thrush
and absesses. Proper
balancing and dressing
of the hoof wall
reduces the stress
which leads to hoof wall
avulsion (separation).
Precise nailing is only the
 last step in excellent
 horseshoeing. First the
correct hoof angle is
 determined by examining
 the sole plain, the pastern
angle and the leg
 conformation. Next the
hoof is trimmed  to the
 ideal shape for that horse.
  Then the shoe is selected
 and shaped for the
individual horse on the basis
 of his condition, gait and
 the work he does.
